Let us look at the connection that writers make when writing about nature and how that can affect others perception on nature. A butterfly effect on the world through a writer world that changes the world even if the writer may no believe that it can. Putting that work out there could surprise you.
Alison Hawthrone writes on how we need to make a new connection to nature by including human conflicts. How humans can't get anything done because of restraints on ourselves from different views and opinions. Finding "common ground" between groups of people would be very difficult. What groups of conflicts would affect nature the most? What common ground can we find? Is the decrease and destruction of nature something that all groups of people could work together and fix?
Without any changes to how we handle the environment we will burn ourselves out and the Earth out. Should environmentalism be one of our top priorities? Why has no one in a high position been able to do anything impactful to nature? Is it possible for everyone on earth to move past differences and take steps to change our impact on the environment? Or would something significant have to happen first?

ReplyDeleteIt seems like many people were confused and perhaps annoyed with Allison Deming’s writing. Much of what she says is almost too covered in fluff of words to really understand what exactly it is she’s saying. I do agree with John Doe, though, that it is amazing what she managed to fit into one essay.
Two posters highlighted the same quote about polarizing, that speaks on the them vs us situation. John Doe asks readers which polarized opinion seems most urgent, I might have to say that they all seem pretty urgent, especially the jobs vs owls.
I like what TallBerryBee says about making writing accessible. So often is academic writing littered with jargon that many people just don’t understand. It bogs down the writing and then creates a lack of interest in a topic or issue. When writing about nature you should be inclusive because we are all living on the same planet. We should all be enriching our lives with the nature around us and caring for our Earth. What I can take away from this reading and all the blog posts is that we need to make nature something that we can all enjoy, and come together to understand, on a level that everyone actually can understand.
