Meta: Life after Climate Change
This week's discussion seemed to center around, not the possibility of climate change and its impact on humankind, but, rather, how do we now live with the effects of climate change. There seems to be little resistance in the class to the the idea of climate change; the focus has been on the changes we have already noticed, and the effects about which we have read. The questions and thoughts proposed this week centered around how to notice climate change, how to stop causing more damage, and how will future generations change the way climate change is considered - what can we do to raise awareness. We have touched upon these things in class, but this week's blog assignment particularly brought up some questions about the future.

ReplyDeleteIt appears from reading through the posts/comments on this issue that there is a definite feel of uncertainty in our own influence. Yes, we can be more aware, yes, even helping a little bit is still helping. But the sheer amount of hurdles and helplessness that follows is daunting. We want to save the world, yet it seems like such a distant set of things we need to do, involving corporations that control more than we'll ever even know in some of our lifetimes. At the very least, it's understood that a) this problem exists, and b) we need to do something about it. Now it's all about c), what we can actually realistically do as individuals to impact for the better. 2030 is not a lot of time to work toward, but it might just be enough if people remain vigilante and educated.
